Lacey's mother gave them art as a child and has always known peace as long as a sketchbook was in their hands. Lacey Vilandry is a painter from the heart of Appalachia. Their work is concerned with all of the inner workings that make life diverse and magical. Drawing inspiration from cave art, post-mpressionists, symbolists, and visionaries, they paint stories that ground their daydreams and inner explorations in waking life.

Born in the mountains of New Hampshire and living in Virginia, they are proud to call southern West Virginia their home. They received their BFA from James Madison University in 2016, and sought further education at the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art and from masters including Amanda Sage, Laurence Caruana, Alex Grey, and Allyson Grey.

Lacey has exhibited their art internationally through the unique avenue of live painting at music and art festivals and is featured in the permanent collection of the Pacha MoMA in Irapuato, Mexico. In 2021 they had a solo show of 20 original works at Gary Bowling’s House of Art. In 2017 Lacey was named Artist of the Year by the Crystal Chalice Awards.

When not exhibiting at festivals, Lacey finds most of their time is spent at their home studio or attempting to get lost in the woods, foraging for mushrooms and other wild edibles.

Thanks for joining my journey. Here’s to being in a weird, anxious meatsuit for a cosmic comedy.
